24 ways to improve your wellbeing in 2024

I hope this email finds you in good health and high spirits as we begin the new year.

I don't know if this is the same for you, but I feel like 2023 was a bit of a whirlwind - a year filled with wonderful life experiences and a fair share of challenges and struggles. I was reminded how one can easily fall off routine when equally having a good time and when the Universe decides to teach you some hard lessons. And that is life - learning how to navigate the highs and lows, losing ourselves but finding our footing once again.

Therefore, my goal this year is pretty straightforward - reset and bounce back to the routine that I know helps me feel centered, healthy and content.

You may already be tackling your own list of wellness goals for the year, but here are 24 actions to pave the way for an incredible year in 2024.


Conscious eating
Colorful variety: Diversify your meals with vibrant seasonal and local fruits and vegetables.
 

Shop the perimeter: Do most of your grocery shopping from the outer perimeter of the store where you will mostly find fresh produce, meat, fish and dairy - ie. minimally processed items.


Essential fats: Incorporate Omega-3 fatty acids for brain and heart health - an excellent option being ghee.

 

Eat until you are 80% full: and ancient practice which improves digestion and the absorption of nutrients. Do this and you will also avoid that post-meal slump time.


Culinary adventure: Experiment with new, wholesome recipes to keep meals exciting. Exchange recipes with friends who enjoy similar cuisines.

Energize your body 
Morning movement: Take a 15 minute walk every morning. Keep it simple! Morning sunlight, movement and fresh air have a direct positive effect on your circadian rhythm, circulation, digestion and mood.

Explore movement: Try a variety of activities to keep your fitness routine fun and interesting.


Strength matters: Prioritize resistance training and lift some weights to support healthy muscle mass and help keep your bones strong throughout life.

Active breaks: Break up prolonged sitting with short, active breaks throughout the day.


Nurture your mental well-being
Cultivate mindfulness: Engage in daily mindfulness or meditation to improve stress reduction and focus.

Positive mindset: Foster positivity through gratitude journaling.

Check-in with yourself: Prioritize your mental health and reach out for support if needed.


Nourishing fluids
Hydration essentials: Ensure adequate water throughout the day.
 

Herbal elixirs: Incorporate herbal teas to enhance overall health and boost immunity.


Tranquil slumber
Evening habits: Cultivate a soothing bedtime routine to promote restful sleep.

Digital detox at dusk: Minimize screen time before bedtime to enhance sleep quality.

Ideal sleep setting: Design a cozy sleep environment, emphasizing darkness and quietude.


Building connections
Nurture relationships: foster profound connections through regular communication.

Foster a sense of togetherness: Schedule regular social activities to strengthen your community.


Mental gymnastics
Eclectic reading: Delve into a diverse selection of books to stimulate your mind.

Cognitive challenges: Engage in brain games and puzzles for cognitive enhancement.

Continuous intellectual growth and enrichment: Attend workshops, learn a new language, instrument or skill to keep your mind sharp.


And finally…a couple of Ayurvedic self-care practices
Morning oil-pulling: Begin your day with the ancient practice of oil pulling for enhanced oral health and detoxification.

Conscious breathwork: Incorporate Pranayama techniques to boost respiratory health and achieve balance.
